MONROE COUNTY — Four students from Columbia High School were in a vehicle that rolled over on Hanover Road on Sunday, killing one teenager and seriously injuring another.Â
"This tragic incident has profoundly affected multiple families, as well as our dedicated first responders," on the Monroe County Sheriff's Department's Facebook page.
The post also cites "various rumors circulating online" about the crash and asks for support for "the families impacted by this tragedy."
Illinois State Police issued a news release Monday that said a Waterloo police officer noticed a vehicle speeding on State Route 3 about 3 p.m. Shortly after, the vehicle crashed about a quarter-mile west on Hanover Road. The location is between Waterloo and Columbia.

One teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. A second was airlifted to a hospital. The other two boys were taken to a hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, the release said.
Police did not identify the person who died, but a Facebook post on the page said they would be gathering at a candlelight vigil Monday in honor of Crawford Bryant, "a brother and teammate." The posted that "Crawford was an energetic and beautiful young man with a bright future ahead of him."
The vigil is set to start at 7:30 p.m. at the parking lot of the Columbia pool, 238 West Temple Drive.
Classes will be held Tuesday at Columbia High School, but no one will be penalized if they do not attend, said district Superintendent Chris Grode.Â
"Everyone grieves differently," he said.
Counselors and social workers from nearby districts have volunteered to be at the high school to help anyone who needs support.
"We could all use thoughts and prayers," Grode said.
